Talk about name that fish _ _ _
My father used to take me to the fish market since I was a toddler because I loved to pick out the fattest crabs for the family lunch table on Sundays. Crabs were my favorite and I marveled how they cooked to a luscious red when steamed. The claws were gigantic and full of delicious pink white meat.
During those trips in the early morn, I got to know a lot about fish and their names. I became so good at it that I would challenge anyone to a game of name that fish and always win handily. Until I met a budding lawyer in the office, a young lady who was cooling her heels as a writer until all her license papers and oath taking came through. She went on and on with a whole plethora of fish that I never knew existed. I was stumped halfway through her long enumeration. Turned out her father was in the fish business and put her through law school with the living from the trade.
Who does the Abba Krishna love more the Americans or the Filipinos if fish were the measure? To the Yanks God gave the revered salmon which is so delicious and so healthy plus the texture of the flesh melts in your mouth practically. The Philippines got the fat bellied milkfish with layers of black over silver lumps of Omega 3 in the midsection which taste so sumptuous and mouth watering.

The United States is home to the most delectable varieties of fish in the world. I got a taste of trout and it’s one of the best tasting fish I ever savored. It’s best fried then dipped in a lemon butter sauce. There’s a wharf right at the end of the downhill drive that passes the Department of Housing building in Washington D.C. In the middle of the federal district you can find a small fish market which sells the freshest catch of Potomac catfish, gleaming milky white with pinkish fins. I love it plus the baskets of Maryland blue crabs which sell at giveaway prices for the females bursting with roe because the Americans want only the males. What a lucky break. Like the Americans shun fish heads at Fulton Market in Manhattan and I get to buy them for one dollar apiece.
