Ask your wife which could be better. Sleep in deep comfort in a fluffy bed in a glitzy suite with purring climate control. It helps too if the facilities gleam with spiffed up splendor like a dreamy Shangri-La. Would she choose instead a torrid roll on the beach in the cover of darkness under the thatched groves like stolen moments on a sweaty humid evening festooned with the watchful roundness of a conspiratorial full moon?

Well, the truth to be told, she would choose the plush king bed to spend the night with you. On the other hand she might be inclined to opt for the flagrant tryst on the beach if she were a little tipsy while you dozed from a drunken stupor and the hunky waiter during dinner spirited her away with stealth.

Well, don’t be too holier than thou. Your eyes lingered too long on the curvy behind of the young waitress too. And while your wife freshened up in the little ladies room, your eyes locked with hers for a fleeting segment of eternity and reveled in forbidden arenas of what could be or what could have been.

Sleep is like your judgment on yourself. The hardest person to fool is your own self. You can’t lie under the sheets and pretend that you didn’t drop the ball in that bid to clinch that all important contract or game. Your subliminal self knows everything that went on inside and outside your person. You can run and hide but you can’t sleep. Yup, not winks of sweet sleep tonight because they will remain elusive.

You can choose to roll with the psyche and not try to overpower your body’s festering angst. Extended workouts or oversized meals certainly don’t do the trick. Neither would quick substitute romance from long lost phone numbers dialed up in haste serve as a refuge. Be realistic and say to yourself, I’ve had enough of the placebos.
